Asian American and Pacific Islander Community

Vancouver is home to a diverse Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islanders (AANHPI) community whose rich cultures, histories, and contributions continue to shape the city. From the growing Chuukese community to the many languages, traditions, and businesses that bring our neighborhoods to life, AANHPI residents are an essential part of Vancouver’s story. The AANHPI communities have deep connections to Chinese, Indian, Japanese, Filipino, Vietnamese, Korean, Hawaiian, and many other Asian and Pacific Islander ancestries. As we honor their heritage, we invite visitors to explore the flavors, arts, and cultural experiences that make Vancouver a welcoming and inclusive destination for all.

Taste of the Islands

A longtime favorite at the Vancouver Farmers Market, Husubi’s Poke Shop opened a brick-and-mortar location downtown. It serves up island-inspired bites like Spam Musubi, mac salad, and signature poké bowls. They’re known to sell out fast, so get there early! But don't worry—you can still find them at the Vancouver Downtown and Camas Farmers Markets, too.

Communi-Tea

In Vancouver, community-driven boba and tea shops are more than just spots for a refreshing drink—they’re hubs of culture and connection. Local favorite Short and Sweet, with its strong community roots, celebrates events like Chinese New Year, Pokémon GoFest, and more. Meanwhile, the capybara-themed Softea delights with its sweets regularly partners on community initiatives like Coffee Connections with Vancouver's Downtown Association

Sakura Festival

Over 25 years ago, Vancouver was gifted 100 Shirofugen cherry trees from its sister city, Jojo, Japan. These trees now thrive at Clark College. Join in celebrating this lasting friendship and the beautiful blossoms at the annual Sakura Festival every April!
