This concert is given to generate funds to assist the blind & low vision Washingtonians to access available resources including technology, braille, independent living, education, employment and travel expenses to the NFB National Convention.
About the Artist: “Three Together” is a folk-rock trio consisting of Don Mitchell, Judy and Doug Smith.
Doug Smith is an internationally known finger style guitarist. He has one the national finger style championship and has shared a grammy award for the album “Pink Guitar” Doug has provided guitar music for the movie “August Rush” and “Twister” He also, in the past has provided music for the Martha Stewart show.
Judy Smith, Doug’s wife, is a retired orientation and mobility teacher from the Washington State School for the Blind. She grew up playing the flute and enjoying singing and listening to music with her sisters.
Don Mitchell is a Graduate of the, now closed, Oregon State School for the Blind. Don has sung since he was a child. As a teenager he learned to play the guitar and sang in a folk trio called “the Statesman Trio” in Salem Oregon. In high school Don sang in choirs and played in a rock band. He then studied music for two years at Lane Community College in Eugene Oregon.
Don and Judy began singing together in 1994 and in 1998 Doug joined us to form “Three Together”.
“Three Together” has performed for local civic groups, farmers markets and in many senior centers. They performed for the Portland Winter Folk series: The Portland Folk Society: the Florence Music festival and for the Western Folk alliance. “Three Together” enjoy playing music from the 50’s and 60’s and some later music. Genres may include soft rock n role and popular folk from a wide variety of popular artists. They play “covers” from groups like: Peater Paul & Mary: John Denver: Crosby Steels Nash & Young: The Everley Brothers and many more. Their music features tight three-part harmonies and well-crafted two-part finger style guitar arrangements with beautiful flute additions to give the music a Younique sound.
