Spring 2014

Vancouver USA has been welcoming military service men and women for more than 150 years since the establishment of the Vancouver Barracks at Fort Vancouver.

Prior to the barracks, Fort Vancouver served as the economic capital and main supply depot for the iconic Hudson's Bay Company. Built in 1824-25, the timbered walls protected a thriving fur trade backed by a multicultural cast of characters, including British soldiers (and eventually US Army), French Canadian trappers and a village filled with more than 35 Native tribes.

The only National Park Service site in the Vancouver-Portland metropolitan area, the Park Service professionals at the Fort engage visitors year-round through costumed performances and interpretive talks at events such as Tales of the Engagé and lantern-lit tours of Fort Vancouver.
